Handmade Antiqued Copper Wire Wrapped Ring with Blue Lab Created Topaz
I created this ring by hand with 100% Copper wire, showcasing a faceted blue topaz as the centerpiece. A lab created gem is the same chemical composition as a natural gem, it just wasn't dug out of the earth. This allows you easier access to a gemstone that would otherwise be charged thousands for.
Each bend and weave is done by hand, no heat or fabrication. My style uses weaving, hammering and manual manipulation to achieve the final design.
Working with raw copper wire, I carefully weave and shape each intricate pattern by hand. The band features a braided design for hints of celtic or viking era workmanship. No casting or mass production here, just my hands crafting a unique piece of wearable art specifically for you.
My Artisanal Process
After completing the wirework, I apply a patina using a liver of sulfur solution that transforms the bright copper into a rich, dark gunmetal finish. I carefully dip it in a warmed sulphuric bath, then neutralize the chemical reaction with baking soda. Depending on the softness of gemstone, it’s either polished solely by hand and dremel, or tumbles with steel shot to polish the metal and remove excess tarnish, creating depth and highlights. I usually use a combination of both to get the best shine.
This darkened finish gives the pendant an antique, vintage look. My designs are ideal for someone who appreciates uniqueness and artisanal craftsmanship, rather than machine made, generic, or name brand jewelry. I specialize in statement pieces, less so the minimalistic style.
Caring for Your Ring
Without frequent wear, your ring will tarnish and darken. To preserve your ring's appearance:
-
Store in a jewelry box or tightly closed container when not wearing
-
Remove before washing hands, showering, swimming, or sleeping
-
Remove before doing manual or machine work like heavy lifting and mechanics
-
Keep dry to prevent unwanted green patina that can develop when copper meets moisture
-
Handle with care to maintain the precise wirework and stone setting
-
Remember, the more you wear it, the less tarnish can stick!
