"Marbled Seashore" - Abalone and Sterling Silver

My Artisanal Process

I wrapped this beauty in fine sterling silver wire using techniques I've been perfecting for years. Each bend and weave is done by hand, no heat or fabrication. 

After completing the wirework, I apply a patina using a liver of sulfur solution that transforms the bright silver into a deep, dark gunmetal finish. I carefully dip it in a warmed sulphuric bath, then neutralize the chemical reaction with baking soda. Depending on the softness of gemstone, it’s either polished solely by hand and dremel, or tumbles with steel shot to polish the metal and remove excess tarnish, creating depth and highlights.

This darkened finish gives the pendant a vintage, almost medieval aesthetic. The result is a piece with the power to capture the eyes of many —ideal for someone who appreciates uniqueness and artisanal craftsmanship, rather than machinemade, generic or name brand jewelry.

This pendant has some weight to it – not heavy enough to be uncomfortable, but substantial enough that you know you're wearing something real. The chain is sturdy and supports the piece nicely.

Caring for Your Jewelry

With wear, your jewelry will develop its own unique character; the dark patina will gradually lighten in high-contact areas, revealing the shine of silver beneath. To preserve your necklace’s appearance:

• Store in a jewelry box or tightly closed container when not wearing

• Take off before showering, swimming, or sleeping

• Handle with care to maintain the precise wirework and stone setting
