Wire Wrapped Rose Cut Amethyst Handmade Copper Ring Size 9.5

Silver? Gold? I want something new. Something different. Copper jewelry isn't something you'll find very often so despite its antique color, it catches many eyes and compliments.

 Size 9.5 in US measurements. The size may vary a little because of its handmade nature ♥️

The gemstone is a natural amethyst and has color variation and concentration throughout! It has a rose cut which means the back is flat and the top is faceted. I love how fancy it makes a crystal.

Fun fact, (myth? Lore?) Amethyst was worn by kings and court members to keep them from getting drunk. It was believed that the purple color of the stone had a sympathy with wine and that if worn, you could drink as much as you'd want and never get wasted!

WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE THIS RING I take spools of copper wire, each weighing a pound when purchased and use them like string to weave the band of the ring. Sizing was tricky at first, as the gauge of the wire and how thick the band is influences the final size. Sizes are also less than a mm apart, but with time, I created my own method to predict the final size. For instance, if I want to make a size 7, I measure for an 8. Once I am done shaping the ring and setting the stone, I trim the wires and tuck them around the band. The added thickness of these wire ends bring the ring back down to the original size I was after, a 7. Then curate a liver of Sulphur bath-don't worry, no biological liver tissue is used! It is the term used for a chemical compound that will rapidly darken the surface of the copper. As you can imagine it's very dangerous working with Sulphur so a gas mask, gloves and other safety equipment must be used. Now that the ring is dark and tarnished, we need to knock off most of it so that it doesn't turn your skin and clothes dark on contact (Some darkness will occur naturally over time). I either hand polish or use a tumbling machine with steel shot and a chemical to shine the metal, leaving dark in the cracks and shine on the raised parts of the metal. Ta Da!

🏥Care for your jewelry! Please keep in a safe place when not wearing. Store in a little plastic baggy to prevent from tarnishing. Remember not to wear in the shower, swimming or to bed. Take off before washing hands to avoid green patina build up. Brush with 000 grade steel wool or a toothbrush to knock off any green build up.
